Your purchase of olive wood scripture gifts from this store helps support a struggling Christian community in Israel – Thank you!

Olive trees are an important part of the landscape of central Israel, and are mentioned many times throughout the Bible. Some of the olive trees in Bethlehem are estimated to be as much as 2,000 years old, so olive wood is a piece of history in of itself.

Olive wood carving actually began as a Christian handicraft in the Holy Land as early as the fourth century A.D. for early pilgrims, and some of the descendants of these early craftsmen are still carving olive wood figures today. This carving is not just a simple souvenir, but rather a piece of history that supports a long tradition of Christians living in the Holy Land.
